What is sexual assult?

Any unwanted act in which a person sexually touches another person without that person's consent or physically forces a person to engage in a sexual act against their will. It is an act of violence.

It's not your fault!

Sexual assult is a traumatic experience. You may be in a state of shock and find it hard to believe that this has really happened to you.

You may feel guilt, anxious, sad, angry, numb, embarrassed or ashamed. In some cases you may have difficulty sleeping or eating, experience nightmares, flashbacks and fear.

How to support someone who has been sexually assulted?

If a survivor chooses to share what happened to them; it means they trust you to help them through this experience. How you respond will make a difference in how they respond to the trauma.

Sexual assult violates a survivor's sense of self and their safety. It is normal for a surivor to feel a wide range of emotions. When a survivor shares their story, listen and validate their feelings.
